HCDE Partnership with Chattanooga Public Library
Hamilton County Department of Education is beginning a cooperative project with the Chattanooga Public Library which will allow every student in the school district to have the opportunity to receive a library card, free of charge. In the past, potential library patrons living outside the city were charged an annual user fee. The free card will give all HCDE students access to the best educational resources and learning materials in the Chattanooga Public Library system.
Some of those resources are:
Repurposed interiors at the downtown library and branch libraries to make the buildings more child and teen friendly—for instance, the entire 2nd floor of the downtown library is now dedicated to use by children, from babies to those who are 18 years of age. With its “augmented reality sandbox,” that 2nd floor is a “must see!”
At the library website, www.chattlibrary.org the public librarians have brought together a wealth of online sources for children and adults. The website has to be seen and explored by patrons, in order to grasp the depth of free resources—for instance, there are several different vendors providing e-book downloads, and with Hoopla, it is possible to stream movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and music. With Zinio, students will be able to download free magazines. Also, students may now begin using the Homework Helper service online via the library website.
PLEASE FILL OUT A PERMISSION FORM BY AUGUST 26TH IN ORDER FOR YOUR CHILD TO GET A PUBLIC LIBRARY CARD IN SEPTEMBER. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED COPY OF FORM. FORMS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE SCHOOL’S LIBRARY.
